U.S. CENTENNIAL OF FLIGHT COMMISSION NAMES
THIRD MILLENNIUM ENTERTAINMENT AS MEDIA PATRON

International TV Production Company Joins Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Wright Brothers’ First Flight

Washington, D.C.
July 1, 2002

Furthering its mission to inform and educate the public about the history and development of powered flight, the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission today named Third Millennium Entertainment as an official media patron.

Under the arrangement, Third Millennium Entertainment of McLean, Va., plans to develop, produce and bring to market television programming related to the history of flight and, in particular, the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first flight on Dec. 17, 2003.

Third Millennium Entertainment programs will include a network or cable TV special under the Centennial theme of “Born of Dreams-Inspired by Freedom” and aviation-specific documentaries. Other venues in which the Commission, its partners and Third Millennium Entertainment will work together include made-for-TV events and special programming related to the Centennial of Flight Celebrations.

“As a media patron, Third Millennium Entertainment will work with the Commission to tell the many Centennial stories in a creative and visually compelling fashion,” said Gen. J.R. “Jack” Dailey, chairman of the Commission. “Working with Third Millennium Entertainment on developing Centennial-related television programming will allow us, along with our partners, to increase awareness for and educate the public on the many Centennial celebrations.”

N. Dann Moss, President and CEO of Third Millennium Entertainment, said, “We are looking forward to spreading the Centennial message via the development of custom programming that has the potential to be seen by millions of viewers on TV and the Web. Our international television and event experience together with our documentary and storytelling capabilities will bring aviation’s many faces and moments in time to life once again as we celebrate mankind’s past and future aviation accomplishments.”

The U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission was created to expand national and international interest in the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first flight. Third Millennium Entertainment will be developing five unique documentaries for cable and network broadcast nationwide in the months preceding powered flight’s 100th anniversary in December 2003. Those documentaries are:

  • "Born of Dreams-Inspired by Freedom” – a three-hour retrospective television special on 100 years of flight, hosted by celebrities and told through the personal stories of the pilots, astronauts and scientists who contributed to the greatest events and adventures in aviation development.

  • “Centennial of Flight Moments” – to be aired 100 days prior to “Born of Dreams-Inspired by Freedom” this program will highlight 100 of the most significant people, places and events in aviation history that have since changed the world in which we live.

  • “We Fly” – a two-hour documentary on the influence powered flight has had upon humans.

  • “Women in Flight” – a one-hour documentary celebrating those women aviators who broke more than just the gender barrier.

  • “The Best of the Celebration of the Centennial of Flight” – a two-hour documentary that highlights flight’s yearlong celebration across the country and with our armed services abroad.

Third Millennium Entertainment will be working closely with the Commission’s existing partners, which include: the United States Air Force, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Aviation Week’s The Next Century of Flight, the Aviation World’s Fair 2003, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the First Flight Centennial Commission and First Flight Centennial Foundation of North Carolina, Inventing Flight: Dayton 2003, NASA and the National Air and Space Museum.
