The National Park Service, along with partner
organizations, will be hosting a gala of activities
at Wright Brothers National Memorial on December
12 - 17, 2003 to celebrate the First Flight
Centennial. Wright Brothers National Memorial
contains the historic site of the first flights
made by Wilbur and Orville Wright on December 17,
1903 in Kitty Hawk, NC. Activities will include
speaker presentations, daily flyovers, static
aircraft displays, special flight-related
activities and performing art events. A centennial
exhibit pavilion, on the park grounds, will feature
special exhibits and activities for the multitude
of enthusiasts that will visit the park from around
the world. The week of activities will culminate on
the morning of December 17 with a formal
commemorative centennial ceremony followed by a re-
creation of the Wright brothers' first flight.
Partner organizations include Dare County Steering
Committee, First Flight Society, Experimental
Aircraft Association, North Carolina First Flight
Centennial Commission, First Flight Centennial
Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space
Administration and U.S. Air Force.
