Brief Description
A highlight of Inventing Flight: The Centennial Celebration is the National Aviation Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony. The annual enshrinement ceremony is widely known as The Oscar Night of Aviation. For over 40 years, this prestigious ceremony has enshrined individual air and space legends, and honored one group or organization, in recognition of their contributions to American aviation. However, in celebration of the centennial of powered flight in 2003, the NAHF will forego enshrinement for special events designed to honor all of its illustrious enshrinees -- men and women who represent a century of flight. Furthermore, all living enshrinees have been invited to return to Dayton for a "homecoming." As many as 35 honorees are expected, representing some of the most famous pilots and astronauts to ever fly, as well as explorers, inventors, engineers, and scientists. It will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime reunion of real American heroes. The National Aviation Hall of Fame Learning and Research Center, located on the grounds of the U.S. Air Force Museum, will feature an extensive exhibit gallery, compelling interactives, live demonstrations and a state-of-the-art research facility.
