U. S. Air Force Sponsors Wright Brothers Educational Curriculum

The US Air Force and StudentAware Communications,Inc. have teamed up to help teachers celebrate the December 17, 2003centennial anniversary of the first powered flight by the Wright brothers atKitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The educational packages will be available for 90,000 subscribers toStudentAware Communications on August 28, 2003. Non-Subscribers will be ableto download the package via the Air Force Centennial of Flight web site http://www.centennialofflight.af.mil after September 1, 2003.

Math in Flight addresses the various mathematical equations and calculationsused by the Wright brothers to accomplish their dream. Science in Flighthelps science students explore the various scientific principles andtheories associated with powered flight. Social Studies in Flight exploresthe lives of the Wright brothers, other aviation pioneers and contributorsthroughout the last 100 years, and delves into the changes that poweredflight has brought to our daily lives.

According to Lieutenant Colonel James Shepherd, Chief, U.S. Air ForceCentennial of Flight Office, in Washington, D.C., "Celebrating 100 years ofpowered flight encompasses so much of our daily lives. Helping teachers andstudents explore the Wright brothers' historical achievements is somethingwe are extremely proud of."

The Air Force is an eager participant in the Centennial of Flightcelebration, working closely with the US Centennial of Flight Commission,created by Congress in 1998 to provide advice on celebrating the centennialof powered flight.
