The Collection: Stories: New York, New York

A set of images taken during Coffyn's flights in the Wright Model B hydroaeroplane over New York, 1912. Now employed by the Alger brothers of Detroit, who owned the airplane, Coffyn flew over the harbor with a photographer. He later flew with an automatic motion picture camera, recording the first aerial footage of New York City. The flights were a sensation in the city, and Coffyn added to the drama by flying under both the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges.
